ABOUT OUR CENTER
- Mission Statement

Our main mission is to introduce college writing (the genre of academic argument), 10 important college-level critical reading strategies, critical thinking, and English grammar and usage to high school and college-bound students.

Our additional mission is to provide ongoing assistance in ESL reading and writing, and early U.S. history and citizenship classes, to high school and college students and adults. <More>

About Us

Edge on English, Inc., was founded and incorporated by Sally Diessner in March 2006.
Ms. Diessner graduated from California State University, Northridge's graduate program in English (concentration in rhetoric and composition theory) in December 2005.

Ms. Diessner’s master's thesis research study, "Critical Reading Strategies of First-Year Composition Students: A Reading-Writing Connections Study," had a large pool of survey respondents (691 beginning-of-semester students and 534 end-of-semester students). Prior to establishing Edge on English in 2006, Ms. Diessner taught English 155: Freshman Composition at CSU Northridge from 2004-2006. From 2007 to present, she has been teaching College Writing and a Writers Workshop at Columbia College Hollywood (Tarzana, CA) and providing freelance editing and photo specs for McGraw-Hill Publishing (Woodland Hills, CA). Since January 2008, Ms. Diessner has also been teaching two College Composition courses at Oxnard College (Oxnard, CA). In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ms. Diessner is currently producing a DVD video on the argument genre.


Previously, Ms. Diessner worked at UCLA from 1995-2003, first as an administrative assistant in UCLA’s Department of Neurology (1995-1996) and UCLA’s Cancer Therapy Development Program (1996-1997), then as an editorial assistant (1997-1999) and senior editor (2000-2003) at the UCLA editorial office of The Library Quarterly, a library and information science journal produced by the University of Chicago Press.

Prior to 1995, Ms. Diessner and her family lived in Shoreview, Minnesota. Her 1994 Bachelor of Individualized Studies undergraduate degree is in Professional Editing & Creative Writing; Film Studies & Video Production; and Rhetoric.
